Repositioning Myself and My Business

We are all being affected by the Coronavirus and for me, business has really slowed down. So, apart from tackling my to do list, I’m taking this opportunity to look at myself and my business and decide whether I need to reposition myself and my services.

Before I started my own business, I had worked in various industries so I never really found a niche industry to offer my services to. My plan was to go with the flow and my niche may find me. I’ve always been an organiser, I love organising processes and clients so starting a business as a Virtual Assistant seemed the perfect step for me.

Since launching my business in 2016, I have had the opportunity to work with wonderful business owners from various industries; authors, recruitment agency, event agency, financial advisor, building consultant, bid writer and an aesthetic therapist. This has enabled me to learn a wide variety of processes, programs and systems giving me a wealth of experience and knowledge. I have always found that I am able to pick up new processes and systems quite quickly. In a previous role. I was asked to be a ‘super user’ when my employer updated their in-house software, I took to it like a duck to water. For some reason, my brain picks things up quickly and have used this to my advantage. I have never found adapting to a new process challenging.

The downtime I recently experienced has allowed me to look at what I have learned since 2016, and where I want to go.

I’m currently studying towards a BSc Honours in Environmental Science with The Open University. Although my decision to study this subject wasn’t a business decision, it was a topic that interested me. However, recently I’ve been thinking more and more about my studies and wondered whether using this knowledge within my business would be more beneficial.

I love supporting businesses and business owners plus the environment is something I’m passionate about, wouldn’t it be a good idea to pair them up? Yes! Doing a job I love and supporting clients within a sector I’m passionate about, sounds like a win win to me!

We spend so much of our time working, surely, we should enjoy what we do. And if you are supporting a sector you really care about and enjoy what you do, is it really work?

I have wondered whether the term Virtual Assistant may be too broad, I would say it’s business support I offer.

I’m really excited and looking forward to the next step, I’ve got a lot of brainstorming to do; new blogs to write, revamp my website, put together a social media strategy and look at what content would be helpful. Watch this space…

Finally, I wanted to send a massive thanks to Faye Cox from Faye Cox Coaching for having a brainstorming session with me. This has given me much needed clarity about how to reposition myself, my business and how to implement it, something I’ve never really done before. If you need help trying to get some clarity, Faye is who you need to speak to. She’s fabulous and she offers power hour sessions too.
